National Geographic y Ashoka Changemakers lanzaron en febrero su segundo Desafío sobre Geoturismo, el cual busca dar a conocer innovaciones que a través del turismo sostienen, mejoran y preservan la cultura local y el medio ambiente. Este desafío tiene el objetivo de identificar personas y organizaciones que utilizan prácticas innovadoras en turismo.
En el site: www.changemakers.net/es/geoturismo se podrán enviar presentaciones hasta el 20 de Mayo de 2009. Aquellos que estén interesados en enviar sus proyectos deberán demostrar que sus innovaciones tienen el propósito de proteger la calidad del destino turístico, así como también el enfoque de Geoturismo. De acuerdo a la definición del National Geographic, entendemos por Geoturismo “al turismo que sostiene y realza el carácter geográfico de un lugar, su medio ambiente, estética, herencia, cultura y bienestar de sus residentes.
Aquellos que participen podrán sumarse a la discusión online, y brindar información valiosa a otras organizaciones. Un prestigioso jurado participará en la selección de los finalistas de este Desafío. Entre ellos: Keith Bellows, Director Editorial de la Revista Traveler y Erika Hams, Directora de Desarrollo Sostenible de la Fundación de NacionesUnidas. La comunidad que participa de Changemakers podrá votar por los ganadores del Desafío, que serán anunciados en Julio.
Jonathan Tourtellot, Director del Centro para los Destinos Sustentables de National Geographic, anunció que “este Desafío se focalizará en aquellos lugares en donde se protege la historia, la cultura y la naturaleza. Queremos reconocer aquellos negocios o innovadores que están trabajando para que estos lugares puedan ser disfrutados por las futuras generaciones”.
